The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch on Monday claimed to dismantle a gang and arms smuggling network, by arresting three members of the notorious Neeraj Bawania-Naveen Bali-Bhau gang along with two arms smugglers.
According to the police, this syndicate was responsible for a range of criminal activities, including armed robbery, extortion, and illegal firearm trafficking. The accused have been identified as 34 year old Subeg alias Shibhu, 31 years old Gaurav alias Saurabh and 38 years old Sharvan alias Hunny, who were all active members of the gang and 34 years old Shoib and 28 years old Azeem, who were arms smuggler.
The police also recovered 12 firearms, including sophisticated Beretta pistols, an IOF revolver, and country-made firearms. In addition, 15 live rounds of ammunition were recovered, along with two vehicles—a Fortuner SUV and a Baleno car, both used for criminal activities.
A senior police officer said that the firearms were sourced from smuggling networks operating out of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar’s Munger and Bhagalpur regions.
The crackdown began on December 2, when police received a tip-off about Shoib, a known arms smuggler based in Aligarh, planning to deliver illegal firearms in South-East Delhi.
