Approach roads to GG flyover at both the ends are complete

Sunday, 24 March 2024 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

The approach road of GG flyover (between Gayatri Mandir to Ganesh Mandir) passing through Bhopal's MP Nagar has been completed.

Both ends of the bridge – Veer Savarkar Setu ahead of RKMP Railway Station and Shaurya Smarak Square are connected. Load testing will take place in April. Traffic can also start over the bridge during the Lok Sabha elections.

The work of the flyover costing a total of Rs 121 crore started from December 20, 2020. Its deadline was till December 2022, but the work got delayed due to other reasons including Covid. Except the third lane i.e. the part in front of Gayatri Temple, the rest two parts have been constructed. The flyover will be launched on this.

According to Public Works Department (PWD) officials, after making the approach road, now small and big finishing works will be done on the bridge. After this load testing and trial run will be done. Both these tasks may take a month. If this happens then traffic can also start in May.

The approach road before Shaurya Smarak intersection has been completed. No inauguration program due to Lok Sabha elections

The code of conduct for Lok Sabha elections has come into effect from March 16. Voting for Bhopal Lok Sabha seat will be held on May 7, while counting will be done on June 4. If traffic is started from the flyover bridge during the Lok Sabha elections, then the public representatives will not be able to hold the inauguration programme. Only after the code of conduct will the inauguration program be held on a large scale.

First of all, the road from Ganesh Temple towards Shaurya Smarak intersection will be operational. The completion of this project will provide great relief to the traffic on both sides of the flyover and below it. About 60 percent of the traffic will pass over the bridge only. There will be no traffic jam below this.

The work on the flyover started on December20,  2020. It was to be ready in two years i.e. by December 2022. Officials say that during this period, work was stopped for three months due to Covid. In return, an extension of 6 months was given without paying any penalty, yet it could not be completed till March 2023. After this, the dates of October 2023 and December 2023 were also announced for launching. Now it is to be started in April.

Before the flour mill, the Municipal Corporation had to shift the Narmada pipeline near Gayatri Temple. The corporation had to tender twice for this. The line has now been shifted, so it will take another month to complete the work.

Asphalt work continues in front of MP Nagar police station. Officials said that the work of the bridge near the Ganesh temple is almost completed. Asphalt work has been completed in the front part of MP Nagar police station. It will take time to complete the work in the third part near Gayatri Temple.
