AIIMS Bhopal achieved a milestone on Tuesday with the successful completion of its first-ever drone test under the visionary leadership of Professor (Dr.) Ajai Singh, the institute's Executive Director. This landmark achievement marks a significant advancement in medical logistics, promising to revolutionize the delivery of healthcare services to remote and underserved regions.
In the inaugural trial, AIIMS Bhopal orchestrated the seamless delivery of life-saving medications from its facilities to the Gauharganj Primary Health Center (PHC) in a mere 20 minutes via drone. Furthermore, the drone efficiently transported a patient's blood sample back to the institute from the remote location, showcasing the technology's potential to facilitate urgent medical interventions.
Prof (Dr) Ajai Singh emphasized the initiative's importance in extending timely medical assistance to tribal populations residing in distant areas.
The primary objective of deploying drones for medical logistics is to ensure swift and accessible healthcare services to as many individuals as possible, particularly in geographically isolated regions.
The drone embarked on its historic journey from AIIMS Bhopal at approximately 12:30 pm and returned from the Gauharganj PHC at around 1:45 pm, under the vigilant monitoring of Professor (Dr.) Ajai Singh. Throughout the mission, the team meticulously tracked the drone's trajectory via GPS technology, ensuring its safe navigation and efficient operation.
Operating at speeds of up to 120 km/hr and covering distances of 100 km per trip, the medical drone holds immense potential in augmenting the existing healthcare infrastructure. AIIMS Bhopal has designated specialized personnel, including drone operators and pilots, to facilitate the loading and unloading of medical supplies, thereby streamlining the delivery process. The successful implementation of medical drone delivery positions AIIMS Bhopal as a trailblazer in leveraging cutting-edge technology to address healthcare challenges.
