The Delhi Police has arrested a 24-year-old for allegedly robbing a Meerut-based businessman of Rs 54 lakh.
According to the police on Friday, the accused was identified as Abhinav alias Abhimanyu, who is a resident of Madangir. “On October 15, at about 03:00 pm, complainant and Jeweler Sanjay Kaushik going from Meerut to Chandni Chowk for buying the jewelry along with his partner Kailash by his Grey colour Tata Altroz Car, he kept two bag containing Rs 54,00,000 at the rear seat of the car,” a senior police officer said. When the victim reached near the Yamuna bridge, two bike-borne people informed him of an oil leakage from his car. As he went to check it, the two men took his money-filled bags and fled. A case under sections 309 (4) (robbery) and 3 (5) of BNS was registered at Sunlight Colony police station.
Based on his complaint, an FIR was registered against the two men, of which Abhimanyu has been arrested. “During interrogation, accused disclosed that he along with his associates robbed two bag of Rs 54,00,000 from a Tata Altroz car in Sarai Kale Khan on October 15. Legal action was initiated against accused and he was arrested,” he said.
The police said that the accused belongs to a poor family. “He is the active member of Thak-Thak Gang. The accused person is found previously involved in more than 15 cases of theft and robbery. He along with his associates commits crime to earn easy money to fulfill his illegal needs,” another official said.
