An abandoned 6 wheel container by the side of NH 75 for around a week, parked in such a way as to from which place it came and where it was to go undefined, has come as a big surprise to the sadar police station in Daltonganj.
An alert sadar police made no mistake about it and when it began to unfold the abandonment, it tumbled down on drugs in the form of poppy straw.
Sadar police in Daltonganj has recovered 40 packets of poppy straw weighing in total 687 Kgs from a 6 wheel container abandoned by the side of NH 75 for over a week on November 14.
There is no arrest of either the driver or the apprentice as the container was lying abandoned.
However there was one big surprise for the police when they went to inspect the abandoned container.
The ignition key to the container was there in the dashboard of the container!
The container seized now has been found to have fake registration of the state of Maharashtra.
Officer in charge of the Sadar police station Uttam Kumar Rai said, "No one neither the owner of the container nor any driver or apprentice has till date come to the sadar police station making any claim to it."
Police officer Uttam (known by his first name) said the 40 packets of poppy straw are worth little over 1 crore of rupees in the drug market.
"It's really an enigma as to how the ignition key to the container was there right inside the driver's cabin of the container so left there with the abandoned container" added Uttam.
The registration number of the container was of the state of Maharashtra which later proved fake.
Similarly the chassis of the truck had a Gujarat number.
Police are investigating from two angles.
First, who is the owner of this container and how this container was so abandoned by the side of NH 75 for over a week?
Second 40 packets of poppy straw were destined to which location of Jharkhand or Bihar?
Sadar police have instituted cases under sections for forgery like 336,338 and 340 of the BNS along with the suitable sections of the NDPS act against unknown persons.
