Polling for the General Elections to Jharkhand Assembly concluded on November 20. A total of 9116321 female voters which makes about 70 .46 percent actively participated in the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha elections 2024.
As per statistics shared by the election commission, the total number of registered female electors was 12937507 while the male electors were 13163429. Only about 65.06 percent of male voters exercised their franchise.
The overall voting percentage in the State has been recorded at 67.74 percent which is the highest since the formation of the State. Out of this 51.56 percent are women voters, 48.43 percent are men voters while 0.01 percent are from the third gender.
For the 81Assembly seats in Jharkhand, voting took place in two phases. The first phase covered 41 constituencies while in the second phase, voting was done for 38 seats.
In both the phases, women voters outnumbered their male counterparts. In the first phase, out of a total of 6836959 female electors, as many as 4720161 exercised their voting rights. This constitutes about 51.65 percent of the eligible population. On the other hand, out of 6873455 male voters who were eligible to vote only about 4417689 cast their vote which is about 48.34 percent. As many as 303 voters from the third gender who were registered in the elector roll only 94 exercised their franchise.
Similarly, in the second phase, the total number of female electors who were registered in the electoral roll was 6100548 while 4396160 exercised their right which constitutes about 51.45 percent. Correspondingly, the number of male voters registered was 6289974 where as the number of male voters who participated in the election was 4146835 which is about 48.54 percent. Out of 145 electors from the third gender only 68 cast their vote.
Out of the 81 Assembly constituencies, 75 have registered greater female participation in comparison to male voters.
During the election, special focus was given to the marginalized section of the society which ensured 100 percent enrolment of the entire population of eligible PVTGs- Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups. An auxiliary polling station exclusively for 57 leprosy affected voters was created in the assembly constituency of Jamtara and 100 percent polling was witnessed in the same.
To combat increased threat of incumbents such as cash, drugs, liquor and freebies used to sway voters, as per the directives of the Chief Electoral Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, all enforcement agencies were issued a strict message for vigilant and prompt action bringing about a significant clampdown on seizures in Jharkhand resulting in exponential seizures of over Rs 200 crores during elections- over 12 fold increase compared to 2019.
A total of 29562 polling stations were set for the two phases. Out of these, 98 booths were theme based, 1391 were women managed, 46 were managed by PwDs- Persons with Disabilities while 49 booths were youth managed in this election.
Various SVEEP events conducted across the State and social media campaigns #VoteDenoChalo and #MummyPapaVoteDo along with that of the SVEEP icon Mahendra Singh Dhoni were widely circulated and ensured awareness amongst voters.
