6 ministers, kin of former CMs to contest in first phase

Polling for the first phase of elections on 43 seats in Jharkhand will be conducted on November 13. In the first phase, the reputation of six Cabinet Ministers including former CM Champai Soren, Dr Rameshwar Oraon, Ramdas Soren, Banna Gupta, Mithilesh Thakur, Deepak Birua and Baidyanath Ram is at stake.

Among the heavyweight candidates in the first phase, the fate of former CM Raghubar Das's daughter-in-law Purnima Das, former CM Champai Soren's son Babulal Soren, Cabinet Minister Satyanand Bhokta's daughter-in-law Rashmi Prakash is to be decided.

In the first phase, the fate of a total of 683 candidates is to be decided. Of the 683 candidates, 334 are independent candidates. 87 candidates from national parties are in the fray. There are 32 candidates from recognized political parties of Jharkhand. 42 candidates are in the electoral fray with tickets from recognized parties of other states. 188 candidates are from unrecognized registered parties. This includes six SC and 20 ST seats.

The fate of 73 women candidates is to be decided in the first phase. Out of these, 34 women are trying their luck as independent candidates. The fate of a third gender candidate is also to be decided in this phase. Third gender candidate Nagma Rani is contesting as an independent from Hatia.

The poll campaign ended on Koderma, Barkatha, Barhi, Barkagaon, Hazaribagh, Simaria, Chatra. : Baharagora, Ghatshila, Potka, Jugsalai, Jamshedpur East, Jamshedpur West, Ichagarh, Seraikela, Chaibasa, Majhgaon, Jagannathpur, Manoharpur, Chakradharpur, Kharsawan, Tamar, Torpa, Khunti, Ranchi, Hatia, Kanke, Mandar, Sisai, Gumla, Bishunpur, Simdega, Kolebira, Lohardaga, Manika, Latehar, Panki, Daltonganj, Vishrampur, Chhattarpur, Hussainabad, Garhwa and Bhawanthpur.
