Sunday, 14 July 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

In Ghazipur, an invitation by a bride’s father to his friend for the wedding proved costly. The friend, a PAC constable, in an inebriated state, created a ruckus over the DJ playing at the wedding. He, along with his associates, opened fire, in which six people were injured. The condition of three of them remains critical.

The injured included guests from the groom and bride’s side.

The agitated groom’s side refused to solemnise the marriage and the baraat returned without the bride in the night itself.

On receiving information about the firing, the police reached the spot and admitted the injured to Ghazipur district hospital. Seeing the critical condition of three injured in the firing, they were referred to BHU medical college hospital in Varanasi.

The police registered a case.

Reports said that a PAC constable’s daughter was getting married on Friday night. The wedding ceremony was going on at RP Palace in Alam Patti under Sadar Kotwali of Ghazipur. The baraat of the daughter of Gulab Kushwaha, posted as a constable in the PAC, had come from Prithvipur village under Birno police station of the district. The wedding ceremonies were going on as per the customs. People were dancing to the tune of the DJ. Meanwhile, PAC constable Ravindra Nath Singh Yadav, a friend of the bride’s father, created a ruckus over playing the DJ. He was drunk and was creating a ruckus in the wedding ceremony. The people on the bride and groom’s side pacified him and made him sit in a room. About two hours after the incident, Ravindra Nath reached the wedding procession with his three associates and started firing with the intention of killing while creating a ruckus. The firing caused a stampede in the wedding programme. About six people from the bride and groom’s side were injured after being hit by bullets.

After opening fire, all the accused escaped from there. One of the absconding accused has been identified as a driver posted in Dial 112 in Varanasi district. His name is said to be Arvind Yadav.

After the incident, the groom’s side refused to solemnise the marriage. Talks for a compromise continued for a long time, but were not successful. Later, the groom returned without getting married.

Ghazipur Kotwali police have registered a case against the accused who opened fire.

Dharmendra Kushwaha, Anil Singh Kushwaha, Pankaj, Nikhil Tiwari, Bikendra Kushwaha and Ankit Kushwaha were injured in the firing incident.
