District court sentenced three accused to 14 years of imprisonment and fined Rs 1 lakh each in the 7-year-old poppy husk smuggling case. The accused used to grind dondachuri with peanut shells and trade it.
A case was registered against the accused under the NDPS Act at Itkhedi police station. After which they were produced in court.
Eintkhedi police station in-charge Chainsingh Raghuvanshi said that he had received information on October 18, 2017 that accused Babu Khan, his son Rais Khan and driver Shantilal were keeping Poppy husk in Jain godown in Parewakheda. Based on the information, the police team reached the spot.
When the team searched the godown, piles of plastic sacks were found at four places. Out of which Poppy husk was found in three piles and peanut shells in one pile.
All the three accused were arrested on the spot and samples of 5 kg each were taken from all the heaps, which were sent to RFSL, Bhopal for testing. Poppy husk was confirmed in the test.
This police operation continued for three days, in which the total weight of 593 sacks was found to be 175 quintals and the weight of 187 sacks of peanut shells was found to be 112 quintals.
