Thursday, 08 August 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

The Uttar Pradesh government has drawn up a plan to organise over 1.72 lakh Arogya Melas to boost health across 75 districts of the state.

The government targets holding 13,000 to 16,000 Arogya Melas every month

The aim of the government is to augment public health through various initiatives, including upgrading government hospitals and building super-specialty facilities. A significant aspect of this effort is the organisation of Arogya Mela (health fairs).

Arogya Melas will be organised every Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm at 3,388 primary health centres. OPD treatment will be available for diseases including tuberculosis, dengue, malaria, brain fever, black fever, filariasis, leprosy and related health advice. The facility of specialist treatment will also be available in the mela.

During the mela, Golden cards will be distributed to the beneficiaries of Jan Arogya Yojana and arrangements will be made for the treatment of malnourished children after identifying them

The Arogya Melas will also provide information on the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Chief Minister Jan Arogya Abhiyan, distribute golden cards to eligible beneficiaries, and offer pregnancy, delivery, and vaccination counseling.

Additionally, they will address the prevention and treatment of diarrhoea and pneumonia in children and take action to treat malnourished children.

The Health Department intends to scale up this initiative by holding over 1,72,000 Arogya Melas across all 75 districts of UP from August 2024 to July 2025. These health fairs will take place every Sunday at more than 3,000 primary health centres across the state.

This includes 13,552 Arogya Mela in August 2024, 16,940 in September, 13,552 in October, 13,552 in November, and 16,940 in December. In 2025, the schedule continues with 13,552 events in January, 13,552 in February, 16,940 in March, 13,552 in April, 13,552 in May, 16,940 in June, and 13,552 in July.
