‘Dead’ woman found living with her lover

Tuesday, 08 October 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

In an interesting twist to the alleged kidnapping and murder of a married woman in Gonda, she has been found living with her lover.

According to reports, 24-year-old Kavita Devi of Nagar Kotwali area of Gonda district was married to Vinay Kumar of Dadua Bazaar in the same district on November 17, 2017.  After the marriage, the couple was living happily until 2021, when Kavita mysteriously disappeared from the house of her in-laws.

After Kavita’s disappearance, a report of kidnapping and murder was lodged by her parents against her husband and in-laws.

Later, when the police started harassing Vinay, accusing him of killing his wife, he too filed a complaint, alleging that his wife was kidnapped by someone, six months after she had disappeared. When the police did not register his complaint, he moved the court, seeking help to trace out his wife. When the court summoned details of police action in the case from the superintendent of police, the police swung into action. Last week, the police recovered Kavita from Lucknow where she was living with her lover Satyanarayan Gupta.

During interrogation, Kavita revealed that Satyanarayan Gupta had a shop in Durjanpur market of Gonda. Kavita told the police that she used to visit Satyanarayan Gupta’s shop and he also used to come to her house. During this time, closeness between the two grew and they started loving each other. Kavita also disclosed that before coming to Lucknow, she stayed with Satyanarayan in Ayodhya for some time.

After Kavita was recovered with her lover, she was presented in the court of the chief judicial magistrate by the police on Monday morning where her statement was recorded.

Further investigations are on in the matter.
