A 16-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging himself in the dormitory of his school in Delhi’s Dwarka area.

According to the police on Friday, an information regarding suicide by a student of Class 11 at Kalinga Institute of Social Science School was received on Thursday morning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh said, “Upon reaching Kalinga Institute of Social Science School, a boy namely Kunal Rai, son of Shiv Chand Rai, aged 16 year was found dead in a dormitory of the school.”

He added that the classmates of the deceased reported that Kunal was upset and lonely because his friends had left the school after Class 10th to pursue a different stream not available in his current school.

“His classmates informed that Kunal was upset as his friends had left his school and had taken science stream elsewhere as the stream was not available in this school,” the DCP stated.

According to a senior police official, the father had pressured him to continue in the School with Arts stream and not go out. “The child was feeling lonely and upset. On Thursday at about 6:00 am, he committed suicide by hanging himself with Iron bar of ceiling.

 by a torn cloth of bed sheet,” he said.

The boy has visible ligature marks on his neck indicating that the boy hung himself. The body was shifted to Rao Tularam Memorial Hospital (RTRM) hospital on the same day.

“Autopsy was conducted and body was handed over to his parents. No foul play suspected so far,” Singh said, adding that an inquest proceeding under section 194 (Police to enquire and report on suicide) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) are underway.
