The Trinamool Congress has strongly reacted to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s trans-border infiltration charges against the Trinamool Congress Government saying by leveling such charges Shah has roundly conceded that the Centre which is tasked with curbing infiltration has failed in its job.
“Amit Shah ji has said that peace will return to Bengal only if infiltration stops and infiltration will stop with the ouster of the TMC Government … by saying so he has himself accepted his Government’s failure to contain illegal migration at the borders … he has to be reminded that it is not the task of the Bengal Police or the TMC to man the borders … it is the BSF’s job to check infiltration in which it has failed if we are to take his (Home Minister) statements seriously,” TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said.
Questioning as to why the BSF has failed to contain infiltration despite the Centre expanding the jurisdiction of the paramilitary force Ghosh said, “the jurisdiction of BSF has been expanded from 15 km to 50 km along the border but still they have failed to reign in infiltration … whose failure is this … is TMC or Bengal Police responsible for this.”
Calling the senior BJP leader a “political tourist” who came during the elections and returns with “failed agenda,” Ghosh said “he used to be a daily passenger during the 2021 State elections and 2024 General elections … still the BJP suffered a humiliat5ing defeat … this is because the people of Bengal despise the BJP’s culture of hatred and love Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, her people’ friendly schemes … As a Hoe Minister he is an important person but in Bengal he is not to be taken more than a political tourist.”
Accusing the BJP Government of holding back Bengal’s “legitimate funds” the TMC leader said how “Amit Shah ji made baseless claims about funds given to the State … but he did not mention about how they have not paid Rs 1.7 lakh crore to Bengal … they collect taxes from this State but do not return its dues.”
On corruption he said that the BJP leadership repeatedly come and raise charges of corruption but finally fail to prove anything wondering “why the BJP does not look inside its own party … as to how many corrupt leaders it has inducted from other parties.”
Shah had during a launch of membership drive in Kolkata alleged that tans-border infiltration was the main reason behind the lack of peace in Bengal. “Peace in Bengal will return only when the infiltration is stopped and that will happen only when the BJP comes to power by throwing the TMC out,” the Home Minister said.
