n The West Bengal government has tightened security network concerning Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari following intelligence reports that several Bangladesh fundamentalist organisations were planning attack on him. Adhikari has already been afforded Z category protection by the central government.
Adhikari has been highly vocal against the attacks on the minority Hindus in Bangladesh following the change of power and ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from that country. "The police administration is alert concerning the security of all the citizens including the Leader of Opposition … and security apparatus are all in place," a senior police official on Thursday said adding it was "not out of ordinary for the State Government to receive security alerts from the central agencies … from time to time."
State Government sources conceded that central intelligence agencies had sent alerts mentioning that at least two fundamentalist outfits based in Bangladesh were planning to attack carry out attacks on Adhikari. Meanwhile the Trinamool Congress sources dismissed threat perception against Adhikari saying it were all devices to malign the Mamata Banerjee Government.
