Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta on Monday wrote to Chief Minister Atishi, demanding immediate monthly financial aid of Rs 1000 for women in Delhi under the 'Mukhymantri Mahila Samman Yojna' launched by the ruling party.
In his letter, he reminded Atishi that former Chief Minister and AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal announced in March 2024 that a scheme in the name of 'Mukhymantri Mahila Samman Yojna' would soon be launched to provide Rs 1000 monthly financial aid to women in Delhi.
“Eight months have passed since the announcement, but Kejriwal has not fulfilled his promise, and women in Delhi are still waiting for this financial assistance. Kejriwal’s announcement has turned out to be as empty as many of his other promises,” he claimed.
Gupta wrote that women in BJP-governed states have been receiving financial assistance for several years. According to Gupta, under the ‘Mukhyamantri Ladli Bahna Yojana’ in Madhya Pradesh, the state government provides monthly financial aid of Rs 1250, under the ‘Mahitari Vandan Yojana’ in Chhattisgarh, women receive Rs 1000 per month and, under the ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahna Yojana’ in Maharashtra, women are offered Rs 1500 per month.
“Additionally, on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, it was announced that women in Odisha would receive Rs 5000 in financial assistance every six months for five years, and in Haryana, preparations are in place to provide women with monthly aid of Rs 2100. Women in these two states are expected to start receiving assistance soon,” Gupta claimed.
He accused Kejriwal and his party of making pre-election announcements for applause but abandoning them after winning elections. “Before the Punjab elections, Kejriwal had made a high-profile announcement that women in Punjab would receive Rs 1,000 per month. However, the situation has now deteriorated to the point where women in Punjab are making rounds of government offices, asking officials when they will receive financial aid from the “Maan” government,” he said.
He added that in Delhi, Kejriwal similarly garnered women’s support with his announcement in March, but eight months later, there is still no sign of Kejriwal’s promise being fulfilled.
