In line with its mission to achieve a "Drug-Free Delhi by the Year 2027," the Delhi Police organised a Mega Drug Destruction in the presence of Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena on Tuesday.
According to the police, as of December 15, the Delhi Police has registered 1,714 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, leading to the arrest of 2,169 drug traffickers. Additionally, financial investigations have resulted in the seizure of assets worth Rs 3.13 crore, with another Rs 3 crore under final forfeiture.
The police have initiated further action against 44 traffickers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988 (PITNDPS) Act.
The Mega Drug Destruction event, held at Biotic Waste Solutions Pvt. Ltd., also saw the presence of the Commissioner of Police Sanjay Arora. Over 10,601 kilograms of narcotics were destroyed, including Cannabis, Heroin, Cocaine, and MDMA, valued at Rs 1,682 crore on the international market.
This follows previous destruction events where 2,888 kilograms in December 2022, 15,700 kilograms in June 2023, and 10,631 kilograms in February 2024 were safely disposed of.
The Delhi Police is rigorously implementing the "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan" and conducting raids on hostels, schools, colleges, and other public spaces.
Public awareness and cooperation are crucial to this campaign, with cash rewards offered for information on drug trafficking. The department urges citizens to stay united in the fight for a drug-free city.
