Leave politics to politicians, Omar tells J&K DGP

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and the National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah Wednesday gave a sound piece of advice to the Director General of Jammu Kashmir Police RR Swain by requesting him to leave politics to politicians and do his job of improving the situation and combat the militancy.  “We, politicians, cannot look after law and order, we cannot fight militancy even though our party has given maximum sacrifices.

“We can raise our voice against militancy, we can help the government efforts but it is the job of the DGP to fight militancy. Let him do his work, we will do ours,” Omar said while reacting to the statement of DGP as it drew sharp reactions from various political parties in the region.   Swain on Monday had blamed the regional parties of Jammu and Kashmir for Pakistan’s ‘successful’ infiltration into the Kashmiri civil society.

Swain also alleged that “so-called mainstream political parties” cultivated leaders of terror networks and sometimes directly for electoral prospects.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday called for his sacking over the huge losses suffered by security forces in the past 32 months.

Meanwhile, Additional Director General (Law and Order) of Jammu and Kashmir Police Vijay Kumar Wednesday said that the statement by DGP RR Swain about regional parties allegedly hobnobbing with terrorist leaders could be his “personal opinion.”

Jammu and Kashmir Police have been an apolitical force from the beginning. We work with impartiality. The statement of the DGP could be his personal opinion. We are a professional force, apolitical and impartial,” said Vijay Kumar.

He was in the Zadibal area of Srinagar on Wednesday to oversee the arrangements for the Muharram procession on the day of Ashura.
