Kejriwal doles out advice to Omar on how to run ‘half a State’ in J and K

Monday, 14 October 2024 | Mohit Kandhari | Jammu

The top brass of the Aam Admi party led by their Convener and former New Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Sunday landed in Doda to celebrate the victory of their candidate Mehraj Malik in the recently held Assembly polls.

Malik created history by opening an account of the Aam Admi party in Jammu and Kashmir. He defeated BJP's Gajay Singh Rana by a margin of 4538 votes.

Malik, a District Development Council (DDC) member, polled 23,228 votes against Gajay Singh Rana's 18,690 votes. The National Conference candidate stood third, the Democratic Progressive Azad Party candidate stood fourth and the Congress party candidate stood fifth in the tally of votes.

Doling out a piece of advice while congratulating CM Designate Omar Abdullah during the rally, Kejriwal said If Omar Abdullah has any problem in running the government, he should ask me, I have run the government in Delhi successfully.

“Like Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir has also been made a half state, and all power has been given to the Lieutenant Governor. I would like to tell Omar Abdullah that if you face any problem in working, ask me, I know how to run Delhi,” the former Delhi chief minister said in Doda. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP MP Sanjay Singh also attended the rally in Doda.

On the occasion, Kejriwal also expressed hope that lone AAP MLA  will be given responsibility in Omar Abdullah's government.

“Since AAP has supported the Omar Abdullah government, I hope that our Mehraj Malik (AAP MLA) will be given responsibility in Omar Abdullah's government so that he can serve the entire Jammu and Kashmir along with Doda,” Kejriwal said.

Both Sanjay Singh and Bhagwant Singh Mann in their speeches congratulated the people of Doda for electing Mehraj Malik based on his campaign focused on the issues faced by the common man on the street and holding the government accountable for failing to deliver on their electoral promises.  Mann said, When our future generations will be asked where the 'development politics' started in Jammu and Kashmir, the answer will be that development politics started in Jammu and Kashmir from Doda.
