After witnessing a series of targeted strikes on the army personnel in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch the Indian army has increased its footprints in the Jammu region to prevent similar strikes and also plug the gaps along the line of control with Pakistan to check any fresh infiltration bids.
The deployment pattern was reviewed after the decision was taken to induct more troops in the Jammu region amid a sudden surge in incidents of terrorist violence.
The twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch were the worst hit as they witnessed repeated ambushes on army trucks and patrol parties since October 2021. Later the Pakistan-based terrorists extended the arch of terror toward Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, and Kathua districts. On December 21, 2023, four army personnel sacrificed their lives and two others received critical injuries after their vehicles were ambushed by the hiding foreign terrorists in the general area of Dera ki Gali in the Poonch district. Nagrota-based General Officer Commanding (GoC), White Knight Corps Lt Gen Navin Sachdeva Saturday visited Rajouri to strengthen civil-military ties and recognize the pivotal role of local communities and veterans in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
During the visit, Lt Gen Sachdeva praised the synergy between the civilian population and security forces, particularly in the sensitive border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. He highlighted the Indian Army’s increased operational footprint in the region, including the strategic occupation of the upper reaches of the Pir Panjal Range, as well as its close collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and civil administration.
He said that new posts have been set up in the upper reaches and the movement of security forces at night has been increased to improve security and peace in the region.
"Helicopters, UAVs and several types of sensors are being used as a part of technology to ensure peace", he said. Acknowledging the contributions of veterans and local leaders, he credited their efforts for the improved security scenario in the region.
The Corps Commander also participated in the Mendhar Cricket Premier League (MCPL) felicitation ceremony, applauding the youth’s enthusiasm for sports as a unifying force. He emphasized the importance of such events in channeling energy positively and promoting community harmony.
