Gurugram traffic police gear up for Christmas and new year celebrations, focus on curbing drunken driving

Ahead of Christmas Day and New Year celebrations the Gurugram Traffic Police has made special preparations for smooth traffic operation in the city.

Traffic officials said special attention would be kept on drinking and driving.

For this, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Traffic Virender Vij, has assigned the duties of traffic police officers to celebrate Christmas Day and New Year safely and peacefully.

The DCP has issued guidelines to all the officers posted in traffic to perform their duties with more vigilance during Christmas Day and New Year celebrations.

He also gave necessary directions to the traffic personnel to keep an eye on drinking and driving.

Meanwhile, a total of 57 people, including 06 traffic inspectors, 12 zonal officers, 33 ORS and 06 RSOs, have been deployed in the traffic police during Christmas Day, which also includes 6 traffic check posts. Apart from this, a total of 105 traffic police officers will be appointed especially for the New Year, including 11 zonal officers, 83 ORS, and 11 other traffic employees, which also includes 10 traffic checkpoints. Traffic policemen would be deployed at ten traffic posts in Sector 29 and the MG Road, keeping traffic arrangements in mind. Notably, there are more than 150 pubs in the city, where young men and women attend in large numbers for the New Year celebrations.

Cranes and ambulances have been put on standby in accident-prone areas, and arrangements have been made against drinking and driving. Parking would be arranged along the Leisure Valley and adjacent areas.

Also, concerned traffic official of the area will set up alcohol checkpoints in their respective areas so that Christmas Day and New Year 2025 can be celebrated with joy as well as safely and peacefully.

According to data released by the Gurugram traffic police, a total of 25,615 drivers, including 218 female drivers, who were driving after consuming alcohol, have been challened from 1 January 2024 to 22 December 2024.

“We requested people to celebrate Christmas Day and New Year celebrations peacefully and give their cooperation to the Traffic Police Gurugram. Traffic Police Gurugram is always ready for their service and security. Be careful and be safe. It is important to follow traffic rules.
