The Supreme Court Collegium on Thursday recommended the appointment of Delhi High Court Chief Justice Manmohan as a judge of the Supreme Court. The decision was taken by the Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and also comprising Justices BR Gavai, Surya Kant, Hrishikesh Roy and Abhay S Oka.
The Supreme Court is currently functioning with 32 judges as against its sanctioned strength of 34. Justice Manmohan has been serving as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court since September 2024. Before that, he served as its Acting Chief Justice since September 2023.
He was born on December 17, 1962 and completed LLB from Delhi's Campus Law Centre in 1987. After more than two decades of practice as lawyer, Justice Manmohan was appointed as additional judge of the Delhi High Court on March 13, 2008 and was made permanent on December 17, 2009. His father, late Jagmohan was renowned bureaucrat, Union Minister and Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
