ABVP, NSUI condemn DSGMC’s move to cancel Khalsa College student polls

Amid the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee’s (DSGMC) decision to cancel Khalsa College student elections, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Thursday condemned the decision with the former asking the committee to withdraw the decision and the latter alleging pressure by ABVP to do so.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) backed ABVP said that, in protest against the administrative anarchy, their members are on an indefinite strike, demanding the reversal of this decision. They claimed that it has not been approved by the university administration.

State Secretary of ABVP Delhi Harsh Attri stated, "The reclassification of DUSU colleges as Non-DUSU by the Khalsa Governing Committee is unfortunate. ABVP condemns this autocratic and unilateral decision and demands for its withdrawal.”

He added that the student body has long been advocating for the inclusion of Non-DUSU colleges in the DUSU category. “However, instead of expanding the DUSU category, a DUSU college has been moved to Non-DUSU, which ABVP will oppose. We will ensure that these colleges are reinstated into the DUSU category," Attri said.

Meanwhile Congress’ NSUI strongly condemned the DSGMC’s decision to cancel Khalsa College student elections without any prior notification. “The cancellation, done under pressure from ABVP, is viewed as a blatant attempt to favor them. NSUI has consistently held a strong position in Khalsa College elections,” the student body said in a statement.

NSUI National President Varun Choudhary stated, "ABVP is clearly afraid of facing elections. They know they will lose. I openly challenge them that NSUI will win by 4-0 in these elections." He further criticized the undemocratic decision and demanded the immediate reinstatement of the elections.

“NSUI stands firm in defending the students' democratic rights and calls for a fair electoral process,” he added.
