In a break from tradition, hundreds of women including those from the Ahel Hadis community, on Saturday offered a special prayer (namaz) at Masjid Mohmmadi at Ranpada-Kacheri road on the occasion of Eid. Earlier, women were not allowed to enter mosques to offer namaz along with men.
According to the women, they observed roja (fasting) for 30 days and it was time they observed the Eid-ul-Fitr with all excitement. The Almighty has directed both the men and women to offer their special mass EID prayer at mosques and Idgahs. So, special arrangements were made at the Masjid Mohammadi while the women performed the Eid namaz.
“We do not find anything wrong in women coming to the mosque and performing namaz on Eid. When they performed namaz, men were strictly restricted. Separate arrangements were made for the women. If women could undertake pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina then they definitely hold the right to offer prayers at a mosque,” stated Mohmmed Sahid, Hafiz of Masjid Mohmmadi.
Police arrangements were beefed up in the district in order to avert any untoward incident during the celebration of Eid in the communally sensitive district. Kendrapada SP Madkar Sandeep Sampat monitored the situation by visiting the mosques across the town. Several Hindus also visited the houses of the Muslim brethrens by taking sweets to wish them on the occasion.
