Rotary International, in partnership with Amrita Hospital (Kochi), continues to make significant strides in its mission to improve the health of underprivileged children worldwide. The "GIFT OF LIFE" project, initiated in 2012, has now successfully facilitated over 1000 life-saving surgeries for children with congenital heart disease, commonly referred to as Hole in Heart.
The latest endeavor by Rotary Clubs in Jamshedpur, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Chaibasa (Zone 18 & 19), showcased a commendable effort. On September 29, 2023, a Mega Screening camp was organized at Karim City College, Sakchi, and Mundra Nursing Home at Chaibasa. The camp aimed to screen children aged 6 months to 18 years, identifying candidates for the final screening in Ranchi on October 3rd and 4th, 2023.
A total of 44 patients have been shortlisted for further treatments based on the screening results. Noteworthy is the commitment to providing free operations and treatment, a testament to Rotary's dedication to serving the underprivileged.
The collaborative effort involved the participation of esteemed medical professionals and volunteers. Dr. N K Das, an eminent Cardiologist from Jamshedpur, played a pivotal role in patient screening. The medical team also included Dr. Bani, Dr. Gupta, Dr. VSP Sinha, Dr. Ram Kumar, Dr. Joy Bhaduri, Dr. Priyanka Singh, and Dr. Ekta Agarwal, who generously contributed their time and expertise.
Acknowledgments were extended to key figures, including PDG Rtn. Vijay Mehta, PDG Rtn. Pratim Banarjee, PDG Rtn. Dr. Bharat, AG Hetal Adesara, AG Anjani Nidhi, District Tech Head Ravi Shankar, NCD Chair Rtn. Dr. Ajay Kumar, and the Principal of Karim City College, Mohammad Riaz. Their presence, along with that of all presidents, secretaries, and Rotaractors from the seven Rotary Clubs of Jamshedpur, added a collaborative spirit to the event.
This initiative embodies the Rotary motto of "SERVICE ABOVE SELF," highlighting the selfless contributions of individuals and the collective impact of Rotary International in making a difference in the lives of underprivileged children. The final surgeries are set to take place in Kochi, marking a significant milestone in Rotary's ongoing efforts towards humanitarian service.
