A day after his arrest, notorious poacher Rupaya Marndi escaped from the custody of forest officials here on Monday.
He gave the officials a slip from the Baripada medical college hospital, where he had been brought for treatment after his arrest from Udala on Sunday after he complained of health problems.
Teams have been formed to nab him. An FIR has also been registered in this connection, said Baripada DFO Santosh Joshi.
A show-cause notice has been served to the Range Officer responsible for the incident.
Marndi was among the three wildlife smugglers arrested during a raid at Bahalda in Mayurbhanj district. As many as four leopard skins were seized from their possession.
