The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has awarded Noida International Airport  (NIA) with the international three-letter code ‘DXN’. This is an important recognition and another milestone for the airport project.
With the recognition by the international aviation body, the  NIA moves one more step closer to its customers who will be able to identify the airport across multiple platforms as they take their flights from the Noida International Airport by the end of 2024. The code, to become active once airport operations start, will help travelers and aviation professionals identify and communicate destinations swiftly, accurately avoiding any confusion and mistakes.
CEO, Noida International Airport, Christopher Schnellmann said, “As one of the world’s largest urban agglomerations, India’s National Capital Region deserves a second airport. Noida International Airport will make this long-standing dream a reality and we are excited to receive our three-letter IATA code, which is a significant milestone towards the airport’s operationalisation. We are looking forward to welcoming passengers, customers, and partners at the region’s new economic and cultural hub.”
The IATA codes are unique to each individual airport and serve as essential identifiers for airports globally to prevent any ambiguity between countries and cities. These codes are featured not only on passengers’ travel documents but are a crucial element in various other communications on a daily basis. From flight schedules, ticketing, and baggage handling from one airport to another to streamlining and regulating communication, operations, and logistics, IATA codes help bring the identity of an airport alive at each level.
On the progress front, the airport construction is progressing rapidly. It’s been more than a year since the EPC construction contract was awarded to TATA Projects. The passenger terminal is currently undergoing work on the structural steel required to support its roof. The ATC tower is now standing at a height of over 30 metres. Additionally, subgrade work is in progress along the entire length of the runway.
There are around 7000 workers who are fully mobilised at the site. In the next few months, more than 20 buildings will come up at the site, including the passenger terminal, air traffic control tower, office blocks, sewage and water treatment plants, and electric substations.
NIA has further floated tenders for various other aeronautical and non-aeronautical concessions for the airport. Tenders for F&B concessions and lounges are in place while advertising and ground handling concessions will be shared in the coming days. Groundbreaking for work on the cargo terminal is also scheduled this week.
The airport will enhance connectivity for western UP and add capacity for air travel to/from Delhi NCR while acting as a catalyst for infrastructure development, economic growth, and job creation in the region.
NIA will connect the greater Delhi area and western Uttar Pradesh with other cities in India and the world. This world-class airport will combine Swiss efficiency and Indian hospitality to offer rich experiences and comprehensive commercial attractions and services to its passengers.
NIA will be the first airport in its class in India to achieve net zero emissions, setting a new standard for sustainable airport operations.
