A woman sustained bullet injuries after two miscreants opened fire at her inside her house at Raipal village under the Berhampur police limits in Baleswar district on Tuesday night.
The victim was identified as Laxmi Murmu (50), wife of Rasika Murmu, of the village of Nilgiri block.
According to a police source, Laxmi was attacked when she was sleeping along with her husband and their son. The miscreants barged into their house and shot at the woman and fled from the spot.
Laxmi sustained injuries in her chest, waist and hands. The tribal woman was admitted to a local hospital before being shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack after her condition deteriorated.
“Laxmi is not out of danger and is critical now,” a doctor treating her said.
The reason behind the firing was not ascertained yet. Police launched a probe into the crime.
