An allegedly mentally retarded youth attacked six people, including four women, with bricks and stones while they were out on a morning walk in Bhadohi on Wednesday.
The critically injured victims were rushed to the district hospital where an old woman was pronounced dead while the condition of three of the five injured was stated to be serious.
Surprisingly, the accused even entered the police station, chasing a person who was running away from him to save himself. The accused created a ruckus, and damaged some vehicles parked inside the police station.
Aurai area Circle Officer Umeshwar Prabhat Singh said that four women residents of Uprauth village had gone out for a walk in the morning when a mentally challenged youth identified as Raja Kumar (25), a resident of Sitamarhi, Bihar, suddenly attacked them with bricks, stones and a stick. He also chased other people present nearby and attacked them. This created chaos on the spot.
The CO said that in this sudden attack, Kalavati Devi (62) fell after a brick hit her on the head, after which the youth attacked her severely with a stick.
Kalavati died on the spot.
During this attack, three other women accompanying Kalavati were also seriously injured while trying to rescue her. They somehow saved their lives by hiding in the street.
Singh said the accused also attacked Parmanand Maurya and Gautam who were passing by and seriously injured them. When Gautam entered Aurai police station to save his life, Raja Kumar followed him and created a ruckus in the police station for about 10 minutes. During this time, he vandalised several motorcycles parked in the police station and damaged the glass panes of several vehicles.
The CO said that the police controlled Raja Kumar with great difficulty.
A case was registered against him on charges of culpable homicide and causing hurt.
Singh said that the police sent Kalavati’s body for post-mortem while three other persons seriously injured in the incident were admitted to hospital.
Meanwhile in Etah, a youth coming home on Karva Chauth died in a collision with a canter on the highway in Tappal police station area of Aligarh district.
Sachin Kumar of Ghulam Hussain Mohalla of Aliganj town in Etah used to work in Delhi. On Karva Chauth, he was coming to his home by bus. His double-decker bus had stopped for a while in the Tappal police station area of Aligarh district at 4 am on Wednesday morning. Sachin and another youth got down for a short time and went behind the bus. Meanwhile, a canter coming from behind collided with the bus, crushing both the youths. Some passengers sitting in the bus were also injured. Sachin and other youth died on the spot.
A case was registered by the police and they were making efforts to identify the other victim.
