The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has warned that it will seal the commercial establishments that fail to ensure parking of vehicles in their premises. Since the poor parking system is one of the main causes of traffic congestion in the city, the vice chairman of MDDA Banshidhar Tiwari recently held a meeting with officials to address the issue. He instructed them to  adopt a strict stance regarding the parking system in the city and ensure that parking facility is available and being used in all commercial establishments, especially those located on major roads. He also directed the engineers of MDDA to conduct an inspection of the commercial buildings located in their respective sectors and ensure strict action against operators in case of any violation. Recently, the police approached MDDA to check the parking system at wedding points when people were stuck in heavy traffic for hours on Haridwar Road due to vehicles parked on the roads. Many claimed that though wedding venues have a huge capacity to accommodate guests, their parking spaces are comparatively quite small and insufficient to accommodate vehicles. Due to this, most of the guests have to park vehicles on roads or nearby areas. This often causes traffic jams and sometimes accidents at night. Considering this, Tiwari has directed officials to take strict action against such establishments as per the rules. He said that since the festive season is over, parking should be ensured in the basement of establishments. He asked officials to warn the operators of all commercial establishments to ensure parking of vehicles on their premises or else, MDDA will seal their establishments and take action against them. He also directed the officials concerned to provide a list of all those establishments in the city where MDDA has ensured parking to the police and Dehradun district administration. Besides this, he also asked to provide a list of all establishments where parking is available in the city to the district administration and the police to ensure they can take action if needed.
