The Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ has appealed to citizens to participate in the nationwide Swachhata campaign on October 1 to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary on Monday. He said that the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will conduct this initiative where people can pay their tribute to Gandhi by doing one hour of voluntary labour in different areas of the city in this massive cleanliness drive. He said that the MCD has made all preparations to conduct this campaign. He said that the campaign will be conducted in every ward at 10 AM under the leadership of senior citizens of the area. Besides this, all councillors, public representatives, social workers, NGOs, self-help groups and local citizens will be motivated to donate labour for cleanliness on Sunday. He said that this campaign will also be conducted in parks, lakes, rivers, drains, religious places and other public places. The mayor said that public participation is necessary to make this initiative a huge success in the city which will also contribute to making Dehradun a garbage-free city. He said that MCD has registered 120 programmes for the campaign and that he is optimistic that more people will approach the corporation on Saturday as well.
