MCC should be strictly followed for free, fair polls: Rajan

Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan held a meeting with Collectors, District Election Officers and Superintendents of Police of 8 districts under Bhopal and Narmadapuram divisions at RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration and Management, Bhopal on Thursday. Rajan reviewed in detail the preparations being made in the districts for Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections 2023.

Collectors, District Election Officers and Superintendents of Police of both the divisions present in the meeting gave detailed information through PPT about the preparations being made in their respective districts. In the meeting, Inspector General of Police, Law and Order, Security, Madhya Pradesh and State Police Nodal Officer Anurag, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Rakesh Singh and Smt. Ruchika Chauhan, Commissioner of Bhopal and Narmadapuram Division Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma, IG, DIG of police ranges of both the divisions along with collectors and district election officers and superintendents of police of Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, Narmadapuram, Betul and Harda districts were present.

Rajan said that strict action should be taken against criminal tendencies and anti-social elements in all the assembly constituencies of both the divisions under NSA and other prohibitory sections including Zilabadar. To increase the voting percentage and make voters aware about voting, all districts should speed up voter awareness activities. Special round the clock surveillance should be ensured at inter-state and inter-district checkpoints. Transportation of illegal cash, liquor, illegal weapons and other objectionable materials including drugs should be checked and campaigns to seize such materials should be conducted. Order the SST, FST and VST teams to work with complete alertness and caution.

Rajan directed to make additional security arrangements in polling stations in vulnerable areas. Make concrete arrangements for webcasting (live-streaming) of sensitive polling booths.

Rajan gave instructions to operate the voter help desk number 1950 established in the districts with full activeness and seriousness. Rajan said that every call coming from voters on the helpdesk should be attended and their problem should be resolved appropriately. Maximum publicity should be given so that citizens can complain about violation of the Model Code of Conduct through the cVigil app.

Rajan said that those senior citizens above 80 years of age who want to vote from home should seek approval by filling Form-12D. Similarly, disabled voters with more than 40 percent disability are to be provided the facility to vote from home. In order to provide convenient voting facility to the voters in polling booths with more than 1550 voters, auxiliary polling booths will be built in or near the main polling booth premises, the proposal for the same should also be made available as soon as possible. Along with this, also send the proposal for the counting venue.
