Mahajan lauds Yogi govt for Jal Jeevan Mission progress

Wednesday, 11 October 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

A five-member team, led by Jal Shakti Mission secretary Vini Mahajan, evaluated the on-ground progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission and witnessed the transformative impact of the mission, which aims to provide clean tap water to rural households.

The team visited Udaipur village in Mohanlalganj, where they assessed the tap water supply. Vini Mahajan met with local women who shared their life-changing experiences since the introduction of tap water into their homes.

Some of the women described the scheme as a blessing, as it has eliminated the need to fetch water from hand pumps or wells or in some cases from water bodies.

Village head Shyama Devi expressed her astonishment at the entire process, from the construction of the water tank to the seamless delivery of tap water to homes. Another villager, Jyoti, recalled the initial skepticism of the villagers, which has now turned into trust and gratitude for the government’s commitment to delivering clean tap water to every household.

Another team visited Sarthua in Mohanlalganj and Rudauli village in Sarojini Nagar. They interacted with residents who shared their happiness and highlighted the positive impact of clean tap water on their lives.

The team is likely to continue her visits to more villages on Wednesday to assess the ongoing progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission and witness the positive changes it has brought to people’s lives.

Apart from the central secretary, multiple teams from the Central government are studying the implementation of the tap water scheme in various districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Barabanki, Sitapur and Hardoi. These assessments aim to understand how the mission has positively transformed the lives of rural residents and acknowledge the state’s leadership in providing maximum tap connections.

During a review meeting held on Tuesday evening, Vini Mahajan commended the efforts of the Uttar Pradesh government, acknowledging its role as a leader in providing tap connections.

She said Uttar Pradesh had made significant progress in the ‘Har Ghar Nal Se Jal Yojana’ of the Jal Jeevan Mission nationwide, providing tap water to over 1.69 crore rural families in just four years, as of October 10.
