Dreaded gangster Anil Dujana was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force in Meerut on Thursday afternoon.
Following the encounter he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.
This is the second high profile killing by UP STF in encounters after the killing of Atiq Ahmad’s son Asad in Jhansi. Asad was wanted in connection with the murder of Umesh Pal.
Anil Dujana was a resident of Dujana village under Badalpur police station of Gautam Buddha Nagar district. His real name was Anil Nagar. He was feared in parts of western Uttar Pradesh and ran an organised criminal gang. The first case against Anil Dujana was registered in 2002. Later, he joined the gang of Naresh Bhati, who was killed by Sundar Bhati.
The encounter comes in the wake of the ongoing crackdown by the Uttar Pradesh Police on crime syndicates.
In November 2022, Dujana was sentenced to three years in jail and also fined Rs 20,000. A person had lodged a murder report against a few people, including Dujana in 2011. He had been absconding despite being served several summons by the court. A chief judicial magistrate had sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment.
A notorious criminal, Dujana was nabbed by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police in 2021. He had 62 cases registered against him, including 18 of murders. The other cases included loot, extortion, land-grabbing and others. He was also booked under the National Security Act (NSA) and Uttar Pradesh Goonda Act. Dujana carried a reward of Rs 25,000 which was announced by the Bulandshahr police. The Noida police, on the other hand, had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 on him. He had been in jail, but was granted bail in 2021 after being nabbed by the Delhi Police. Later on a court issued a non-bailable warrant against him for non-appearance in old cases.
