TRAINING TO YUW MEMBERS ON LEADERSHIP DEV
Bhubaneswar: A two-day leadership development training for members of the Bhubaneswar Young Urban Women (YUW) was held here from Thursday. The training was organised by ActionAid Association in collaboration with the Centre for Child & Women Development. The objective of the training was to enhance the leadership skills of the YUW members, said Bhaskar Chandra Pradhan of ActionAid. Tainer Sasmita Mangaraj used various tools and techniques to educate the participants on leadership development. Additionally, cyber expert Binayak Sahoo enlightened the participants about preventive methods of cybercrime, the advantages and disadvantages of using social media like WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram.
CYBER SAFETY CAMPAIGN IN BALESWAR
Baleswar: To make people aware about cyber fraud and safety measures, a curtain raising programme as part of Cyber Safety Campaign for Baleswar district was held on Thursday. Collector DB Shinde and SP Sagarika Nath displayed the logo, mascot, theme backdrop, poster, theme song, two campaign videos (cyber fraud-Loan App, child pornography in Odia), etc. This is meant to make people aware about the Cyber Safety Campaign going to be launched in the district from October 2 to 15 through different IEC activities, including various competitions among students across blocks.
KANDHAMAL DLSA HELPS AILING WOMAN
Phulbani: Kandhamal DLSA Chairman and District Judge Satyapira Mishra has directed DLSA secretary Anushila Ray to help one Barsha Nayak, who is suffering from fits from her childhood and also having some mental problem. The DLSA Chairman saw her in the court campus and immediately directed the Legal Aid Secretary for medical assistance. The Legal Aid Secretary contacted the CDMO for her treatment. The district Collector sanctioned Rs 10,000. For further treatment, she was referred to Cuttack. An ambulance was also arranged for immediate shifting her. Her family members are obliged for the act of District Judge.
GANJAM ADMN GEARS UP FOR ELECTIONS
Chhatrapur: A district-level meeting was organised here by Ganjam Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida for the preparation of upcoming elections. There are 3,046 polling stations in the district. A proposal has come to include another 12 new polling stations to the list. Added to this, two new polling stations each in Hinjilicut and Digpahandi are also proposed. Based on these proposals, the district administration has sent a request to State Election Commission to include 14 more polling stations to the district list.
ENGINEER CAUGHT TAKING BRIBE IN RAYAGADA
Rayagada: Ramakanta Mallik, Asst Engineer (Estimator), Office of Executive Engineer, Public Health Division, Rayagada, was apprehended on Friday by the Vigilance police while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 from a contractor's family member in order to process the file for signing of agreement between the contractor and the Executive Engineer, PH. Disvision, Rayagada for execution of PH works.
AWARENESS PROG OF PARADIP PORT WORKING WOMEN CELL
Paradip: The Working Women Cell of Paradip Port organised an awareness programme on “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013". High Court advocate and guest faculty Dr Purusottam Chuli enlightened the participants on the subject.
IFFCO, CORDET HOLD FARMERS’ TRAINING
Paradip: IFFCO and CORDET jointly organised a farmers’ training and visit programme on Wednesday. The event witnessed the presence of RK Pandey, IFFCO GM (Production) Dr Jibanjit Sen; Head of KVK Jagatsinghpur Dr P Majhi; Scientist at KVK Jagatsinghpur, Prasanna Beura; Administrative Officer & PRO at IFFCO, Paradip; and Kulamani Majhi, Principal at CORDET. Total 45 progressive farmers attended the programme. The focus was the discussion on the usage of nano fertilisers to enhance crop yields and protect the environment.
TEAK LOGS, LIVE BIRDS SEIZED IN BALANGIR
Balangir: Forest officials with the help police raided a house at Dhobapada in the Kantabhanji area in Balangir district on Thursday and seized a huge quantity of teak wood. The raid was conducted in the house of one Mohan Tank. Timber machinery and wooden items were also seized. The estimated value of the seized items would be around Rs 5 lakh. Moreover, three live parakeets were recovered. Notably, parakeet is a Schedule II animal as per the Wildlife Protection Act, said Balangir DFO Nitish Kumar. A case for possessions of illegal logs and another case of illegal possession of birds has been registered.
JSW MINE BAGS POLLUTION CONTROL APPRECIATION AWARD
Bhubaneswar: The JSW Steel’s Jajang Iron Ore Mine has bagged the Pollution Control Appreciation Award from the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) at OSPCB’s 40th Foundation Day celebration. Forest and Environment Minister Pradip Kumar Amat presented the award.
