Engaging in a war of words with Punjab’s veteran politician and senior BJP leader Capt Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday slammed him saying that the history is testimony to the fact that the “self-proclaimed wise ness” of Patiala scion has ruined the state.

“Entire Punjab knows that Captain had always been bothered about his chair rather than the state and its people. By confining himself in palaces, Captain has totally ignored the interests of the state during his days in power. History is a fact that Captain has a lineage of backstabbing Punjab and Punjabis,” said the Chief Minister, in response to Capt Amarinder’s remarks.

The Chief Minister said that no Punjabi can ever forget that forefathers of Capt Amarinder had sided with Mughals and British for their vested interests. “They had committed countless atrocities on the patriots fighting for the country's freedom during the British regime,” he said.

“Toeing the line of his ancestors, the former Chief Minister had hobnobbed with Congress and Akalis whenever it suited his political interests. Again now, he has decided to join hands with anti-Punjab and anti-farmers BJP despite the fact the saffron party is responsible for martyrdom of more than 700 farmers during agitation against draconian farm laws,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that ‘power hungry’ Captain had switched sides only for sake of power which is quite similar to what his ancestors did during the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919 by siding with the British. “Captain has already got punishment for his treachery against farmers and Punjabis as people have ousted him from the political arena of state,” said Mann.

He categorically said that now in political oblivion, as deposits of all his candidates have been confiscated in 2022 polls, Capt Amarinder is issuing baseless and misleading statements in state, which cannot be tolerated.
