The “Nanda Utsav'' (Janmastami) was celebrated at Jadav dominated village Goba (Gobardhanpur) under Badamadhapur GP on the bank of the Rushikullya river here on Thursday evening with pomp and gaiety. It was organised by the Gopal Samaj.
Former Deputy Speaker of Assembly and Advisor, State Agriculture Department, Rama Chandra Panda graced the event as chief guest. Soon after Mangal Arati, Bandapana and other rituals, hundreds of villagers mostly the Jadavs, farmers, sevayats of local Jagannath temple, youths and devotees of Lord Krishna, holding Radha-Krishna statues in silver palanquin moved around the village in a procession with Nama Sankeertana and traditional Mrudanga Badya.
Earlier, Panda was given a rousing reception by the villagers for his contributions to the village. He explained the significance of the fest and stressed on farming for better livelihood and plantation works. He also urged the villagers to stay away from liquor. Panda earlier joined the Nanda Mahotsav at Badaputti village under Kalipalli GP.
