In a distressing incident, former Akali Dal minister Jagdish Singh Garcha and his family fell victim to a shocking crime. Garcha, along with his wife, sister, and a domestic helper, were discovered in an unconscious state at their residence in Maharaja Ranjit Nagar on Pakhowal road on Monday.

Local law enforcement has reported that the family’s home was not only ransacked but also subjected to theft. The primary suspect in this unsettling case is the male domestic helper, who has since gone missing, according to the police authorities.

Inspector Gurpreet Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sadar police station, has indicated that initial evidence points to the male domestic helper having served the family food tainted with intoxicants on Sunday night before making a hasty exit, absconding with cash, jewelry, and other valuable possessions.

Upon the discovery of Garcha, his wife, and two other female domestic helpers in an unconscious state on Monday morning, they were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Local authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Jagdish Singh Garcha, who formerly served as an SAD MLA representing Kila Raipur in Ludhiana and held a Cabinet Ministerial position within the SAD-BJP government, had been known for his staunch loyalty to the Badal family. His political journey included serving as the Minister for Technical Education and, at one point, facing allegations of corruption leading to an arrest by the vigilance department. In 2020, he decided to depart from the party, subsequently joining the faction of SAD (Sanyukt) rebels.
