In a major disruption to the daily commute of thousands of passengers, train services across several routes under South Eastern Railway ( SER) remained cancelled due to agitation by the Kurmi community. The cancellation of trains has caused significant inconvenience and frustration among commuters, leading to widespread disruptions in travel plans.
 
According to the railway authorities, the cancellation of trains is a result of agitation by Kurmi activists, which has affected multiple routes.
 
Passengers at various railway stations were left stranded as the announcement of train cancellations came in. Many frustrated passengers were seen waiting for updates from the railway officials, while others had to make alternate arrangements for their travel, including rescheduling flights, booking buses or arranging for private transportation.
 
"I was supposed to catch a train to my hometown for a family event, but now I'm stuck at the railway station with no information about when the trains will resume," said Mohan Sharma, a stranded passenger at Tatanagar railway station.
 
The cancellation of trains has also impacted the freight services, with several goods trains being delayed or cancelled, affecting the transportation of goods and supplies across different regions.
 
In the meantime, commuters are advised to make alternate travel arrangements and plan their journeys accordingly until the issue is resolved. The cancellation of trains has caused disruptions in the daily routine of thousands of passengers, and the authorities are working round the clock to address the issue and bring normalcy back to the railway services.
 
The public agitation by Kurmi community members over their demands seeking ST status and inclusion of Kurmi in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, hit train services for the second day.
 
The agitation was continuing at Kustaur station in the Adra-Chandil section of Adra Division and Khemasuli station in the Kharagpur-Tatanagar section of SER’s  Kharagpur division.
