Daily monitoring of communicable disease control campaign in Oct

Friday, 29 September 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

In a commitment to combat communicable diseases, the Yogi government’s ongoing campaign in the state is set to continue through the month of October. From October 3 to October 31, special vigilance will be maintained across Uttar Pradesh under the special communicable disease control campaign and Dastak campaign (October 16 to 31).
Importantly, the entire campaign will undergo daily monitoring and reporting. Any personnel found to be lax or negligent will face strict consequences. Urban Bodies Directorate director Nitin Bansal has written a letter to all the municipal commissioners and the general manager of the Jal Sansthan regarding this.
For effective control and prevention of communicable diseases and meningitis in the state, the state government is running a special communicable disease control campaign and Dastak campaign in coordination with many departments.  In this, not only action is being taken to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, but proper arrangements have also been made for the treatment of the suffering patients.
Nitin Bansal said that effective and timely action should be taken on the mentioned points related to urban development, and activities should be conducted daily during the campaign as per the prescribed microplan. Additionally, information about the activities completed daily should be compulsorily sent on the directorate’s Google link.
Bansal has also given instructions to identify personnel who are lax and negligent in this important campaign and ensure strict action against them.
The Dastak campaign is being taken forward with coordination between several departments that will play significant role, which include Medical Health and Family Welfare, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Education, Municipal Corporation, Urban Development, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Swachh Bharat Mission, Information, Culture and Medical Education Department.
Furthermore, UNICEF, PATH, WHO NPSP, Tata Trust, Plan India and Godrej CSR are not only associated with this campaign as partners but are also monitoring it regularly.
The campaign is operating within a microplan that involves collaborative efforts between various departments. This plan entails ongoing surveillance of mosquito breeding and population density in the districts, identifying high-risk areas based on last year’s data and an increase in communicable disease cases. In areas with a high mosquito population, intensive mosquito control measures are being implemented.
Additionally, the campaign includes checking the breeding conditions of mosquitoes inside the houses, for which ASHA and other employees have been deployed by Anganwadi and the district.
Information will be given by Asha and Anganwadi workers on measures to stop mosquito breeding and prevent mosquito bites. Source reduction activities will be conducted in collaboration with the Urban Development, Rural Development, and Health departments. Apart from this, activities will also be conducted for monitoring and treatment of patients of leptospirosis and scrub typhus.
