Clean streets and mohallas with main roads

Environment Minister Hardeep Singh Dang has said that the urban administration should pay special attention to the cleanliness of the streets and mohallas along with the cleanliness of the main roads of the city. It has a great impact in pollution control.

Most of the literature related to environment is in English language. Explain the importance of environment, conservation and measures to the people in their language in a simple way. Minister Dang said this on Monday in a one-day workshop under the Central National Clean Air Programme by the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board in Bhopal. Municipal commissioners of 7 cities of Madhya Pradesh – Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Sagar, Ujjain and Dewas, District Superintendents of Police, stakeholders of City Level Implementation Committee and officials of various departments are participating in this.

Minister Dang said that an amount of Rs 36 crore has been given by the Environment Department to the municipal corporations for environmental protection.

This amount can be hiked on doing good work. Municipal Corporations should make joint efforts to improve air quality in coordination with various departments. Raise awareness in cities as well as villages and towns.

Over 5 crore saplings have been planted so far in the Ankur programme for environmental protection launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, it will provide huge benefits in the coming times.

Principal Secretary Environment Gulshan Bamra said that air pollution in cities is caused by industrialization, construction works, dust particles and burning of wood-waste and smoke of vehicles etc.

Efforts are being made to control them. He said that the amount received by the municipal corporations, which will not work to improve the air quality of the city, will be reduced. At the same time, the amount of those who do good work can also be increased.

In the workshop presentations were given by subject matter experts Mukesh Sharma from IIT Kanpur on "National Clean Air Programme in India", Mauktik Bawse from ARAI Pune on "Source Apportionment Study and Emission Inventory of Bhopal City" and Shikhar Jain from CII New Delhi on "Airshed Basin and Source Apportionment Study of Indore City". Municipal commissioners of all the 7 cities shared their experiences and work being done to improve the air quality of their area.

Member Secretary Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board Chandramohan Thakur, Director A Mishra, Additional Commissioner Municipal Corporation Bhopal Awadhesh Sharma, senior officers of Pollution Control Board and of various departments were present.
