The Meteorological Department in Raipur on Friday issued a heat wave alert in the central part of Chhattisgarh as the temperature rose to 45 degrees. The heat wave has hit Bilaspur, Raipur, Durg, Janjgir-Champa and Raigarh districts.

The Meteorological Department said Janjgir-Champa district was the hottest with a maximum temperature of 44.9 degrees Celsius. Raigarh recorded 44.2 degrees C. The temperature in Mungeli was 44.3 and at Balodabazar 43.4 degree Celsius.

The average temperature of Rajnandgaon and Raipur touched 43 degrees Celsius during noon hours.

The department predicts that the weather in the state will remain continuously dry for the coming few days. The dryness was caused due to hot winds from the north-west.

It has indicated extreme heat wave-like conditions in one or two places in central Chhattisgarh in the next 24 hours and heat wave-like conditions at some places. The department also warned of thunderstorms and light rains.

The department has urged people to take precaution while stepping out. People should consume enough water and drinks like lassi, rice water, lemon water, buttermilk and coconut water to protect themselves from water loss.

People should wear light colour loose cotton clothes and also have a cap or umbrella besides goggles to protect the eyes.
