Punjab Governor greets people on Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid)

Chandigarh: Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Banwari Lal Purohit on Wednesday extended good wishes and greetings to the people, especially the Muslim brethren, on the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid). The Governor said that Bakrid commemorates the spirit of sacrifice, faith, and compassion exemplified by the Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim. It teaches us profound lessons about selflessness, absolute devotion to God and compassion for the poor. Let this spirit of charity and goodwill towards all be cherished and nourished, said Purohit.

Punjab VB nabs pvt agent for accepting bribe to make license sans driving test

Chandigarh: Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday arrested a private agent for accepting a bribe of Rs 500 in lieu of getting a heavy driving license issued without undergoing mandatory driving test. The accused, identified as Gurcharanjeet Singh alias Gopi, is running a cafe near an automatic driving test track centre in Jalandhar, and has been arrested on the complaint of one Daljit Singh of Bibri village in Kapurthala district. He alleged that the agent had demanded a bribe of Rs 1200 for getting his heavy driving license issued without undergoing any driving test.

 
Punjab vigilance nabs Patwari for accepting Rs 2k for property mutation

Chandigarh: Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday arrested a Patwari of Mahilpur subdivision in Hoshiarpur district for taking bribe of Rs 2,000 for the mutation of property. Ranjit Singh, a resident of Sakruli village in Hoshiarpur district, lodged a complaint against the Patwari for taking bribe for registration of mutation of six Kanal and five Marla land on Anti-corruption Line on June 17, 2023. The accused Patwari has been identified as Jaspal Singh of Tehsil Mahilpur district Hoshiarpur, who is a resident of Karimpur Chahwala village in Balachaur Tehsil of SBS Nagar district.

Haryana achieves 98.60 percent of the target set under Amrit Sarovar Mission

Chandigarh: The Haryana Government has completed 98.60 percent of the target set under the Amrit Sarovar Mission, a government statement said on Wednesday.  Under this scheme, a total of 1650 Amrit Sarovars are to be built in the state, out of which the construction of 1627 Amrit Sarovars has been completed.  These include 558 model ponds and 1069 MNREGA ponds.  The target renovation of the remaining Amrit Sarovars will also be completed by June 30. Executive Vice-Chairperson, Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority Prabhaker Kumar Verma said "Out of the total 19487 ponds available in the Pond Data Management System (PDMS), the Authority is working on reviving 11836 polluted ponds on priority. In our annual plan year 2024-25, we have set a target of renovating 6680 ponds." 

Haryana gears up for July G20 meetings

Chandigarh:  After hosting the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group and Agriculture Working Group meetings in Haryana in March, the State Government is now gearing up to host two additional G20 meetings in July. A government spokesperson said that the first event, Startups 20 Shikhar, will be organized by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Government of India in collaboration with the Haryana Government. It is scheduled to take place in Gurugram on July 3 and 4. The second event, the Conference on Crime and Security in the Age of NFTs, AI, and Metaverse, will be organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs and is set to be held on July 13 and 14, he added.  Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal on Wednesday reviewed the arrangements with the senior officers of the State and Union Government. Kaushal said that about 800 delegations from G20 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and the European Union, would participate in the conference. Additionally, nine countries, namely Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain, and the UAE, have been invited as guests to the conference.
