A businessman in Bijnor district was allegedly robbed and his wife was gang-raped on Wednesday.
The robbery took place at the businessman’s house while he was out with his mother and his two children to see a doctor.
According to reports, five men entered the house, tied up the wife of the businessman and gang-raped her. The robbers consumed alcohol and burnt the woman with cigarette butts. Besides, they also stole 250 grams of gold jewellery, 2 kilogram silver items, Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, a scooter and an LED TV installed in the house.
At first, the police attempted to hush up the robbery and gang-rape, but they eventually registered a complaint after the case gained media attention.
The businessman claimed that he had been robbed on October 19 as well. During that incident, the robbers had held him hostage and made off with Rs 80,000 in cash. He had filed a complaint at that time and was assured by the police that action would be taken against those responsible for the robbery.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadaun sent station in-charge Vikas Kumar to the lines for being negligent as he allegedly only gave assurances to the businessmen, instead of registering a complaint in the October 19 case.
A case has now been registered by the police, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to gang-rape and robbery and further investigations are on.
In another incident in Bijnor, a 14-year-old boy, Shaurya Singh, died while bursting firecrackers inside a steel tumbler. The explosion burst the tumbler to pieces and the splinters hit the boy in the stomach and legs.
After the freak accident, Shaurya initially tried to hide his wounds from his parents. Once his family came to know about the accident, they rushed him to a local private hospital where he died due to excessive blood loss.
