Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday released the Madhya Pradesh government’s ‘report card’ from 2003-2023 and said the BJP government in these years successfully removed the BIMARU category (laggard) tag from the state, which, according to him, was a legacy of the Congress regime.
Shah released the government’s ‘report card’ of 20 years at a function in the Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal in the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, MP BJP president VD Sharma and state Home Minister Narottam Mishra.
The assembly elections in MP are due this year-end.
The BIMARU acronym has often been used to refer to Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, to imply that these states lagged in terms of economic growth, health care, education, and other indices.
“Madhya Pradesh came into existence in 1956 and since then, except for five-six years, Congress ruled the state till 2003, but the state remained BIMARU during their regime,” Shah said.
“However, the BJP government has successfully brought the state out of the BIMARU tag and put it on the path of development by implementing various welfare schemes,” he said.
The senior BJP leader demanded that the opposition Congress give its report card of ruling the state for nearly 53 years.
Shah also gave figures to prove that Madhya Pradesh is now counted among developed states in the country and congratulated CM Chouhan for this achievement.
During the Congress regime, the state was lagging on all fronts, including power, water and roads, but the BJP government made a tremendous turnaround in all these spheres, he added.
Describing the benefits of double-engine government, Shah said that double-engine government created new paradigms of development in the state. He said, not only did the problems of roads, electricity and water go away, but the state advanced on all the parameters of education, health, good governance and development and brought development and prosperity from the capital Bhopal to the village chaupal.
Referring to the development-oriented policies of the Central Government, Shah said that after coming to power in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government raised the standard of living of 60 crore poor people. He said, 14 crore people came out of poverty.
Criticizing the previous Congress governments in MP, he said that the state budget was left at 23 thousand crore rupees, which the Shivraj government raised to 3.14 lakh crore rupees.
Schemes like toilets in every house, gas connection to every needy mother and sister, tap water in every house are examples of complete saturation, Shah added. The Modi government has built toilets in 80 lakh houses in the state, and 1.2 crore Pradhan Mantri Anna Yojana cords have been made.
After Bhopal, Shah attended the BJP State Working Committee meeting at Atal Auditorium of Jiwaji University, Gwalior. More than 1500 workers and office bearers from across the state participated in the State Working Committee meeting. Shah guided the party leaders and workers regarding the upcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh.
Election in-charge for Madhya Pradesh, Union Forest Minister Bhupendra Yadav, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, several Union ministers and officials associated with the organization were present in the meeting.
