The Commissionerate police on Monday arrested Odia actress Mousumi Nayak (39) on the charge of tarnishing the social prestige of writer Banasmita Pati.
The police had registered a case against the actress as per a complaint lodged by the writer. Later, Mousumi was produced in a local court, said ACP Ramesh Bisoyi.
Mousumi had earlier lodged a complaint against Banasmita with the Infocity police alleging that she had invested money in stock markets through the writer, but the writer did not return her money.
Subsequently, the actress had withdrawn her complaint following the writer’s assurance to return the money, sources said.
She once again lodged a complaint against the writer with the Chandaka police in September that Banasmita was forcing her to get into escort service. She also alleged that the writer had threatened her when she sought her money back, the sources added.
However, the writer moved the Orissa High Court pleading that the actress had hampered her social prestige by levelling false allegations against her, the sources said.
The Infocity police registered a case against the actress under Sections 385, 294, 506 and 507 of IPC as per the court order.
Notably, Mousumi had acted in several Odia, Hindi and Telugu movies.
