The additional director general (ADG) of police, (Information and Security) Abhinav Kumar took charge of director general of police (DGP) of Uttarakhand from outgoing DGP Ashok Kumar on Thursday. During the customary handing over and assuming charge, the outgoing DGP handed over the ceremonial baton to Abhinav Kumar in the afternoon. Ashok Kumar was given a warm farewell in the ceremonial parade organised at the Police Lines which started at 9 AM. He was welcomed to the Parade site by Abhinav Kumar which was followed by a grand farewell parade. Both the outgoing DGP and the new DGP addressed the personnel on the occasion.
Addressing the parade, Ashok Kumar said that he was overwhelmed by the honour. He said, “I would like to thank and congratulate all the participants in this parade. I am fortunate that I had the privilege of leading you all for three years. There are quite emotional moments for me in more than 34 years of dedicated police service. I tried to create such a police system in the State in which criminals fear the police and the public feels safe after seeing the police. It was a memorable journey with the cooperation of all of you.” He also praised the new DGP and said that he has full confidence that the police department will continue to serve and protect the State and the general public with dedication, discipline, honesty and integrity under the new leadership. The new DGP also stated that Ashok Kumar has made a special contribution to the police service in the past 34 years and has made an important contribution to the infrastructure of Uttarakhand Police. “I have worked with Ashok Kumar Sir and learnt a lot from him. The most important thing is his nature. I have never seen him getting upset in any situation. All of us police officers should learn from his working style. We all will take Uttarakhand Police to new heights together,” he added.
