Freethought Party of India (FPI) general secretary B Ramchandra CST Voltaire demanded capital punishment for a man and other accomplices who committed honour killing in Kalahandi district involving a pair of teenage lovebirds.
Jemamani Patel (15) and Sunil Patel (17), both from Banjipadar village under Dharmgarh police station in Kalahandi were in deep love. They found opposition to their love affairs at the bride’s home front. So, they eloped on 30.06.2023 and hid themselves in an abandoned mill in Gotaguda village.
Father of Jemamani, Kuneshwar Patel and other members of his family traced the lovers. With the help of his brother Debananda Patel and son-in-law Sundar Naik, Kuneshwar strangled the lovers to death. To hide their crime, they got them “hung” from the branch of a tree nearby Banjipadar village. Police arrested the three killers on July 9.
Meanwhile, three months have gone by. FPI general secretary B Ramchandra CST Voltaire demanded that these killers be given capital punishment so that no other father would ever dare to kill his daughter and her lover in order to save the “honour” of the family.
He further demanded that the case be fast tracked. He also demanded that the State should protect the lives of teenage lovers as per the orders of the Madras High Court.
