The Government on Sunday notified appointment of Chief Justices for Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Gauhati and Tripura High Court. Senior most Judge Justice Sonia Giridhar Gokani is elevated as Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court and Justice N Kotiswar Singh of Gauhati High Court is posted as Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.
Justice Sandeep Mehta of Rajasthan High Court is posted Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court and Justice Jaswant Singh of Orissa High Court is elevated as the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court, said notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice. Justice Sonia Gokani will be the first woman Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court and she will serve as Chief Justice only for a fortnight, as she retires on February 25. Newly posted Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court Justice N Kotiswar Singh has served thrice as acting Chief Justice of the Gauhati and Manipur High Courts.
Newly posted Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Justice Sandeep Mehta is from Rajasthan High Court. Chief Justice of Tripura High Court Justice Jaswant Singh is currently working at Orissa High Court and earlier worked as Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
