The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) on Tuesday signed an agreement with the district administration to make 5000 desks-benches to as many as 200 Parishadiya Schools and 200 Anganwadi kits available to as many as 200 Anganwadi Centres of the district.
In the presence of the Mayor Ashok Tiwari, District Magistrate (DM) S Rajalingam and Chief Development Officer (CDO) Himanshu Nagpal, the Basic Shiksha Adhikari Arvind Pathak & District Programme Officer Dinesh Kumar Singh and Senior Manager Arun Kumar Rai signed on the agreement on the behalf of the district administration and POWERGRID respectively at a programme organised in Vikas Bhawan here.
As per agreement, the POWERGRID will make available 5000 desks-benches to as many as 200 Parishadiya Schools and 200 Anganwadi Kits to as many as 200 Anganwadi Centres with an estimated cost of Rs 2.27 crore under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The Mayor Tiwari said on the occasion that the city is now changing as far as the arrangement, facility and responsibility are concerned and added that we should think in the morning each day what we could give to the city and so, we should discharge our duties honestly.
The DM Rajalingam said that the officers should understand our responsibilities and provide the best service to the public and added that the district administration is consistently making efforts to ensure qualitative education to the children and facilitate the Anganwadi Centres so that the district could be made free from malnutrition. Expressing his thanks to the POWERGRID, the DM said that the cent per cent saturation of the Parishadiya Schools and Anganwadi Centres would be soon.
The Senior Manager of POWERGRID Rai informed that it is an enterprise of public sector and is the biggest electric transmission utility of the country which operates 176180 circuit km transmission line and 275 power dub stations linked to the national grid with 99.85 per cent availability and added that it is Maharatna of the Government of India.
The Government of India has honoured the POWERGRID with Prithvi Award-2023 for its contribution in the fields of environment, social and governance, Rai informed, adding that it has established a power dub station of 765/400 kv capacity with GIS facility in Varanasi through which many interstate transmission lines are operated and this eastern belt of the state gets electricity from Sarnath and Jaunpur power sub stations of UP Power Corporation.
The POWERGRID made this agreement with the district administration at the initiative of the CDO Nagpal and this work would be completed by September, 2024, Rai informed. The DGM of POWERGRID Raj Kumar, Chief Manager Alok Jaiswal, HR-Incharge Binod Kumar and other officers were present on the occasion.
