As the ongoing agitation over Maratha reservations turned violent in several parts of the State, the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on Monday urged Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais to convene a Special Session of Maharashtra Legislature urgently to discuss the raging Maratha reservations and other issues.
Talking to media persons after his meeting with the Governor, Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole said that the issue of reservations to Marathas in jobs and education had erupted across the state, turning the mood of the people against the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde)-BJP-NCP ( Ajit Pawar) alliance government in the state.
Patole said that the MVA delegation that met the Governor had rooted for a special session of the State Legislature to discuss Martha reservations, farmers’ suicides, drug menace anddisappearance of women/girls in the state.
“The situation over Maratha reservations has become so volatile in the state that it has become difficult for leaders to move around their constituencies. Law and order is under threat. Youngsters from Maratha community are committing suicides. The Governor is the link between the state and Centre. That’s why we urged him to take up the matter with the Prime Minister. We also asked him to speak to Jarange-Patil whose health has severely deteriorated,” Patole said.
